Meet the Director
People matter most. Always.
We’re ambitious. I want to grow the business, challenge ourselves and see what we're capable of. I'm always thinking about what we could do better and what we could do next.
But I don't believe success should come at the expense of the people who make it possible.
I want our team to have opportunities to grow, to feel proud of what they do and to be part of something they're excited about. I want our clients to feel genuinely cared for, not just like another appointment in the diary.
Ultimately, I want to prove that you can build a seriously successful business without losing the human side of it. That you can have high standards, big ambitions and still put people first.
Have I got everything right along the way?
Absolutely not!
I've made plenty of mistakes. I've got things wrong, had ideas that haven't worked out and learned some lessons the hard way. Running a business has a funny way of keeping you humble.
But I actually think that's one of the things that makes us different.
We're willing to stretch ourselves, try new things and challenge what we know, even when we know we might not get it right first time.
And when we don't? We need to be willing to put our hands up and say, "We've fucked up there. How do we make sure we get it right next time?"
I'm not interested in pretending we've got everything figured out. I'd much rather build a team and a business that's honest enough to recognise when something isn't right, brave enough to change it and ambitious enough to keep getting better.
That's the culture I want at Nichares. It's how I try to lead, how I want our team to work together and how I believe we give our clients the experience they deserve.
And what's next?
Nichares has been part of Taunton since 1979, and I'm incredibly proud of the history we're part of. But I'm just as excited about what comes next.
I want us to keep evolving, keep challenging the norm and keep creating opportunities for the people who are part of our journey.
For me, success isn't just about how big we can grow or what we can achieve. It's about what we build along the way, who we bring with us and how people feel because they've been part of it.
We're here to do things differently, keep getting better and build something we're all proud of.
And if you ask me, we're only just getting started.
Cameron Dermody
Hairdresser, business owner, big believer in doing things differently.
I never wanted to build just another hair salon.
I've always believed we could build something great. Whether that was ambition or a little bit of delusion, I'll let you decide.
Hairdressing felt like a natural choice for me. My mum was a hairdresser, and as soon as I left school at 15, I started training. I never really questioned what I wanted to do. It was just what I was meant to do.
When I took the reins at Nichares, I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to create. Opening our North Street salon gave me the opportunity to start bringing that vision to life.
So, what did I want to do differently?
Forget the traditional salon model. Black uniforms, white walls, a menu that starts and ends with a latte, and Heart FM playing in the background…
I wanted to create somewhere with a bit more personality. Somewhere people genuinely enjoy being in. A place where you can switch off, have a drink, feel looked after and leave feeling like the best version of yourself.
And just as importantly, somewhere our team actually want to come to work.
Because for me, Nichares has never just been about hair. It's about the whole experience, the atmosphere, the people you meet and how you feel when you're here.
